Chapter 6

Dom stepped into his expensive slacks and stood before the full-length mirror as he slipped into his designer oxford shirt. He buttoned it slowly, covering his tattooed torso. There were no nervous jitters. He had pulled this routine off before without a hitch. It was business as usual, the only thing was the way he was feeling…this attraction he had for Noni was completely unusual. He wasn’t on a pussy chase. He was about the paper, but he couldn’t help but picture Noni’s smile in his mind every time he closed his eyes. “Get a grip,” he whispered to himself as he walked over to the closet. He bent down and lifted one of the floorboards, revealing the handgun he had hidden inside. He never had to use it while making his transactions in Mexico, but should the need ever arise he wanted to be ready. He would rather be caught with it then be caught without it. He couldn’t wait until the day that he could step away from the game for good. He wanted to go completely legit, but he couldn’t step away without Josiah’s blessing. If he did, he would spark a war that he would lose so instead he played his position, hoping to one day earn his way out. He put on his suit jacket, concealing the weapon, before heading out of the door. He stopped by Noni’s room and paused when he noticed the door was cracked. She was wrapped in nothing but a towel. Her toned leg was propped up on the bed as she spread lotion onto her skin. He knocked, feeling voyeuristic as he admired her through the small slit in the door. Each time she moved out of his vision, his heart dropped.

She turned toward the door and tightened the towel around her body before she said, “Come in.”

“I’m just stopping in to make sure you’re good before I head out,” Dom stated.

“You don’t have to keep asking me,” she said as she cocked her head to the side and smiled. “I’m good.” He didn’t move, but his eyes scanned her body. From the top of her head to her pretty feet, she had him mesmerized.

“You’re staring,” she said as she blushed.

“You make it hard not to,” he replied.

“You’re too smooth for your own good,” she said. “I’m not in the market for dreams Dom, so I hope you’re not selling them.”

He didn’t want to lie to her, so instead he said nothing. Instead he pulled out a band of Ben Franklin’s and sat it on the edge of the bed. “Whatever you need.”

He left the room.

Dom walked out and stepped into the car that was waiting curbside for him.

“It’s about time. What the fuck took you so long and why is that bitch here with you? And why aren’t you answering my calls?”

The woman that sat inside the chauffeured vehicle was the same woman that had accompanied him to the gala. Gianni, his girlfriend, and partner in crime, sat fuming as she stared at him in irritation.
